what is osteopathy?
osteopaths are health care practitioners with a previous health background who study osteopathy in order to dive deeper into the multiple functions of the body.
what does that mean?
that means that osteopathic practitioners have the training and teachniques to assist the body on every level including the nervous system, bones and joints, muscles and ligaments.
every osteopath is slightly different in their approach because we learn so many techniques. after discussing symptoms and goals with the client we can then design a treatment that best suits the individual.
what is an osteoapthic treatment like?
typically an osteoapthic treatement consists of various techniques that focus on releasing muscle and joints, calming techniques that include holding the head and low back to release inner fascial layers and manipulate bone torsion, there can be stretching and active release techqniues that work to release and rebalance muscle fibers and tendon restrictions. it really depends on the client and what the osteopath discovers through assessment and treatment.
How is oesteopathy different from massage therapy?
massage therapy focuses on muscle tension, circulation and over stress reduction. Osteopathy will assist with these and more. osteoapthy essentially digs a little deeper to find imbalances that may be lying within deeper layers of the bodies system. for example an osteopath may find that a clients neck may be bothering them because of a car accident from many years ago that compressed the frontal bone and is affecting the integrity of the neck bones. sometimes its the slightest imbalance that sets off a chain reaction of mis-alignments in the body.
should you get a massage or an osteopathy treatment?
that depends on you! it really dosent matter which treatment you get. you can get both! do you have chronic pain that wont go away? have you tried everything but osteopathy to help? then try osteopathy!
do you want to relax and have your muscles be the main focus on the treatment? then get a massage.
osteopathy treatments are covered my most insurance companies just like massage therapy, so you can utilize your benefits and take care of your body too.
